Fun, Adventure, and High Flyin' Monkeys...

The inspiration around one of the hottest collections is all about boyhood adventure.  Here is a fun little story about a couple of adventurous Monkeys:

At the local municipal airport it is a busy day.  All day long the planes take off and land carrying passengers of small prop planes on their daily trips.  But the real fun takes place early in the morning before the pilots arrive...

These monkeys are quick with their work and find their plane and ready for take off.  And thats when the air show begins.  Vrooom!   I'm a little airplane!   We have named the monkey, but I can't tell you because you have to make your own name.  And he has had so many fun adventures at the Airport.

My boys loved going to the local airport where there are seats to watch the planes take off and land; Peachtree Dekalb here in ATL.  That is where this story, artwork and collection was created.  The boys played on the playground and stretched their arms like a plane running around and imagnining their adventure in the sky.

This collection is so much fun, I love the colors and silliness of it all; it's so All-Boy and gives the room a pop of Americana color and playfulness.  This collection is very popular with Moms who are looking for a room that celebrates the boy-spirit.  Although I don't have the youth bedding photographed, it is a must-have for those buying the Nursery linens.  This is an ideal set to "grow with the child" and I can see it easily working through High School.

The First Story and the First Collection....Beach Baby

This collection means so much to me and I am so happy tha Beach Baby has been a great seller.  The colors are so soothing and the fabrics are so casual yet polished.  I have sold out of the initial seersucker print, but I knewit would be a huge hit so I bought two versions of the same fabric collection:  Dandelion Girl.  The fabric selection is the last part of my design process; the first is the story...

My husband and I tried for years to conceive with no luck, even with fertility treatments.  Finally, we decided to take some pressure off and go to the beach.  We are from Florida so "the beach" means "a beach in Florida".  We picked Watercolor near Destin, and just love the sugar white sand and emerald water.  The surf is gentle compared to the Atlantic, and the sunsets are amazing.  I sat under the umbrella one afternoon with Joe, reading a book.  And next to us was this adorable young family.  One baby, and two toddlers just frolicing in the sand and running in and out of the surf, laughing ans squealing.

I just sat and watched that family for hours; dreaming of my future family.  I was not giving up on having a family!  Six months later Joe and I found out we were expecting our first son.  Jack, now 6 years old, was born July 6th, the same day as my Mother and just a few days before my birthdate.  So we all are Crabs and Beach Baby's, lovers of the ocean and water.  The playful joy I saw that day on the beach I wanted to reflect in my playful and silly Crab and scurring, giggly Sandpipers.

Today, we are planning our trip there for early June.  We go back, every year, to the same beach, with the same Crabs & Sandpipers, and my three little Beach Babies....running in and out of the surf.
